DePauw University is a private, national liberal arts college in Greencastle, which is a city in Greencastle Township, in Putnam County, in the US state of Indiana, with nearly 10 000 people, living within its limits, according to the 2000 census estimate.
DePauw was established in 1837 and was originally known as Indiana Asbury University. It has a Methodist heritage and it is the founding place of the world's first modern-day sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, which dates since 1870, also being home to the longest continually-running fraternity in the world.
DePauw's athletic teams are known as the Tigers and they compete in 21 sports, in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are black and old gold and their mascot is Tyler the Tiger.
